2009 JUNIOR COACHES CODE OF ETHICS

  1. All coaches (Head and Assistant) must be adults (18 years or older), regular registered members of USA Volleyball and must be at least two years older than the team they are coaching.
  2. All coaches must be certified at the IMPACT or CAP level by USA Volleyball. Once IMPACT or CAP certified, all coaches must meet an annual continuing education requirement by attending an approved coaching clinic or course.
  3. No coach can participate in, require or condone any act considered to be an offense under federal, state or local laws/ordinances.
  4. No coach can supply or condone the use by players of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, fireworks, ammunition, firearms, weapons or any item or material that can be used as a weapon or which may be a hazard or harmful to other persons.
  5. No coach shall allow, encourage, condone or require any behavior that threatens a players' USA Volleyball, NCAA or High School eligibility.
  6. No coach, club representative, player or parent under the direction of a club, may denigrate another club while communicating with an athlete for the purposes of persuading the athlete to play for their club. Clubs/Individuals may give any player, their parents or guardians, information about their club tryouts, practices, organization or cost.  However, once notified that the athlete has signed a Letter of Commitment and wishes to no longer be contacted, no further recruiting by the coach/club is permitted until the end of the National indoor season (JOVBC).
  7. A registered adult coach must be present at all sanctioned competitions and practices. A registered adult coach or other responsible adult representative must be present during team supervised travel. This coach or adult is responsible for the moral and ethical atmosphere and practices that occur during such team activities.
  8. All coaches must inform both their players and the players' parents or guardians that they must sign/acknowledge a release and waiver of liability before they can become USA Volleyball members and represent the club.
  9. All coaches must inform their players and the players' parents or guardians that they risk bodily injury, including paralysis, dismemberment and death, as well as loss or damage of property. In addition, USA Volleyball policy prohibits any player from transferring teams during the season once that player has represented a team or club in a USAV sanctioned tournament.
  10. All coaches realize that they must read this code, sign the junior coaches code of ethics commitment form, pass a background screen every two years, and be IMPACT or CAP certified to coach in the CAROLINA Region of USA Volleyball. Violation of this Code of Ethics, the USAV Background Screen Policy, the Carolina Region Operating Code, or coaching certification requirements may result in sanctions against either, or both, the coach or club involved. These sanctions may extend to loss of eligibility of the coach, player, team, or club.
All Junior coaches must read this code and sign the commitment form before their registration is completed for the current season. They must also be IMPACT or CAP certified. All coaches will be ineligible to coach at a Carolina Region sanctioned tournament during the current USA Volleyball season until proof of IMPACT or CAP certification is supplied to the Region Office. In addition, all coaches must have read and agree to follow the USOC Code of Ethics available at the Coaching section of the Carolina Region website.
